As an actual beginner (started 6 months ago), here's my beginner video editing software reviews:
OpenShot: First video took about an hour. The timeline made sense immediately. Frustrating part was figuring out how to export properly (had to Google it). Felt intuitive overall.
Shotcut: Took longer to learn (maybe 3 hours for first video). More powerful but also more confusing. The interface has lots of panels that I didn't understand at first. Worth the learning curve though.
DaVinci Resolve: Overwhelming. Made my first video in a weekend with tutorials. Now that I know it, it's amazing, but the beginning was rough.
