Writing support groups that provide constructive feedback without crushing confidenc
#1
I've been trying to improve my writing by joining various writing support groups, but I keep running into the same problem. The feedback is either so gentle it's useless ("I loved everything!") or so harsh it makes me want to quit writing entirely.

I'm looking for writing support groups that have figured out how to provide constructive, useful feedback while still being encouraging. Places where people know how to point out what's not working without making you feel like a terrible writer.

What I need is feedback that helps me grow - specific, actionable suggestions about what could be improved, not just vague praise or brutal criticism. But I also need to feel safe sharing my work, especially since I'm still developing my skills.

Has anyone found writing support groups that strike this balance well? I'm interested in groups that might have structured feedback formats, trained moderators, or community norms that promote both honesty and kindness.

I write fiction mostly, but I'm open to any type of writing community that has figured out the feedback challenge.
