Why does left foot numbness persist after a bike fit?
#1
So I finally got a proper bike fit done, and while my neck and shoulders feel way better, I’m now noticing a weird numbness in my left foot after about an hour in the saddle. The fitter said everything looked good with my cleat position, but it’s a new and annoying problem I never had with my old, less-dialed setup. Has anyone else had something similar pop up after a fit?

That numb left foot after an hour is the kind of thing that makes you pause mid ride. Your neck and shoulders feel better but the body still has a say. Could the cleat setup be forcing a twist in the ankle or altering the pedal stroke in some subtle way?

Small changes in saddle height or fore aft can shift how your foot sits on the pedal. If the fitter said the cleat position looked fine, think about the whole chain from saddle to pedal to shoe and how your ankle and knee travel. Even tiny misalignments can show up as numbness after an hour.

I might be reading this wrong but it feels easy to blame the fit and miss that numbness can come from the shoe pinching or the arch support. The cleat is part of the system and a small offset can change load distribution.

You sound thoughtful and not overreacting. It could be a mild adaptation to a new setup rather than a failure. It might be worth riding with a lax foot to see if the sensation shifts. A tight grip on the bars can also contribute to foot numbness.

The angle here could be wider than cleat position. Maybe the bigger question is how you ride after a fit and whether you should give it a few weeks of riding before tweaking again. The fit helps posture but numbness signals check the whole chain.

Practical steps you can try soon check the cleat float and consider a tiny looseness of the cleat bolts to test. Take a short ride and note when numbness starts. Check shoe fit a bit and look for pinch points. If it persists ask the fitter for a quick recheck.
