Why does color management in DaVinci Resolve flatten my footage at first?

I finally set one up in DaVinci Resolve, but honestly, it’s making everything look way flatter and less vibrant in my timeline than what I shot. I’m sticking with it because I know it’s supposed to give more control, but right now it just feels like I’m adding a bunch of steps to make my footage look worse before I can even start. Has anyone else gone through this and felt a bit lost at first?
