Why does a new sequel feel like a product next to the original?

Okay, so I just rewatched the original movie for the first time in years, and then immediately watched the new sequel that just came out. I’m left feeling kind of weird about it, like the new one was competently made but it had none of the original's strange, specific soul. Has anyone else had this experience, where a new installment in a franchise just feels like a product? I’m trying to figure out if it’s just me being nostalgic or if something real is missing.

Totally. I rewatched the old film and the new one hits the marks but the odd warmth is missing nostalgia is a real thing and it makes the difference in how the movie lands

Maybe the new team kept the surface and skipped the texture that gave the original its soul. The quiet design choices the tone and those strange little beats are where the first lived not just plot turns

I wanted to believe the new movie was a continuation not a rerun but it feels like a factory line not a story do you feel the same sense that the premise was treated as a product?

Im not sure this is a rule but sometimes a sequel can be done with craft yet it loses the bite that made the original memorable I can enjoy it as a product but the soul part is missing

Maybe the issue is not a failure of the film but how we watch now We expect a certain vibe from a new entry and the gap between that and old habit can feel like a let down The discussion shifts from what happened to how we consume

Could be nostalgia talking I may be grabbing at the last weird edge of the first and the new one tried to be clean and clear and that kills the abrupt gut punch I am not sure I am right
