Why do I keep bailing on new shows to rewatch old comfort episodes?

Okay, I’ve been trying to get into this new show everyone’s talking about, but I keep getting distracted after ten minutes and end up rewatching old comfort episodes of The Office for the hundredth time. Does anyone else have this weird mental block when starting a fresh series, even when you know it’s probably good?

Yeah I know that feeling the fresh series starts buzzing in your head and suddenly the couch feels prime and you reach for the old Office reruns as a safe anchor

It could be cognitive load and risk aversion you weigh the new series against familiar reruns and that contrast tips you back to the old Office loop

Maybe you worry the new show will force you to rewrite your taste and you bail before giving the series a real shake of exposure

The hype around a big new series can be louder than the actual hook and you end up chasing a perfect version while avoiding the messy first watch

A different aim may be not finishing a new series right away but letting the first episode sit and see if it invites you back later instead of a binge

Think of it as friction in the series mood a small barrier you can lower by a tiny time test a simple experiment

Sometimes you can test the waters by skipping the first episode and letting the series reveal its vibe on a second watch
