Why did my car insurance premium spike at renewal without claims?
#1
So I just got my renewal notice and my premium has gone up by almost forty percent for no reason I can see—no claims, no tickets, nothing changed. Has anyone else had their car insurance just skyrocket out of the blue this year? I’m trying to figure out if this is happening to a lot of people or if I should start calling around.

Yeah I feel you, my car insurance premium jumped like crazy at renewal and I had done nothing to change my risk it left me annoyed and puzzled

Prices move for lots of reasons beyond accidents like base rate changes inflation regional factors and how a company tunes its pricing year to year

I am skeptical it may be a marketing tactic to lock people in or push add ons even when your actual risk stayed the same

Maybe the renewal is a snapshot not a trend and you should shop around to see if another carrier gives you a better rate

Have you checked the policy for new fees or a changed coverage level that could boost the premium without a claim?

I did a quick compare and found using a higher deductible and dropping some optional coverage saved more than a few percent on car insurance this year
