Which two to three services are essential for sci-fi, docs, and prestige drama?

I'm trying to cut down on my monthly subscriptions and decide which two or three streaming services are actually worth keeping, as I find myself scrolling more than watching. I currently have Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, and HBO Max, but I primarily watch sci-fi, documentaries, and prestige dramas. For others with similar tastes, which services have you found consistently offer the highest quality original content and library in those genres, making them essential, and which ones felt most disposable or repetitive in their offerings?

Given your focus, I’d keep HBO Max (Max) and Netflix as the core two. Max leans into prestige dramas and strong docs, while Netflix handles sci‑fi originals (3 Body Problem, The Sandman, Love Death & Robots) and a massive documentary catalog. If you want a third, Disney+ is the strongest bet for nature/NatGeo docs and the big franchises; Hulu is nice for occasional prestige TV but isn’t essential for your genres.

Two strong paths: (a) Max + Netflix as the base pair; (b) Max + Netflix + Disney+. The third option adds reliable nature docs and space/fantasy franchises, but you’ll want to weigh how much you care about non-franchise prestige dramas where Hulu can shine.

Be mindful of value and turnover: check what’s rotating, what you actually binge, and your offline/4K needs. Netflix and Max both churn docs and limited-series, while Disney+ leans into evergreen franchises and NatGeo originals. If you’re trying to minimize waste, compare your current watch history to these catalogs before canceling any service.

From my experience, a lean trio—Max, Netflix, and Disney+—covers your sci‑fi, prestige drama, and documentary needs without too many holes. Hulu tends to be more variable and often adds value for specific shows; you might drop it unless you have a couple of must-watch Hulu titles.

If you want, tell me your typical weekly viewing (days and times, what you binge most), and I’ll sketch a concrete two- or three-service plan with rough monthly cost and a sample slate to test a few weeks before locking in.
