When is the best time to book tickets for a fan convention?
#1
So I’m thinking about going to my first big fan convention next year, but honestly the whole ticket and hotel booking timeline has me a bit lost. Some friends say you have to lock everything down almost a year out, while others claim they just figured it out a couple months before. How early did you all sort out your plans for something like this?

I did my first big con a while back and booked flights and hotel roughly six months ahead but left tickets timing flexible and it felt doable.

Some folks swear you need to lock everything a year out, others squeeze it a few months before and still manage, is one path clearly better?

I found it helpful to pick the date first and then check how fast tickets sell out, keeps you from over committing.

I overplanned once and it was a mess, so this time I am staying loose until a hotel price catches my eye.

If you want to stay sane I would start with the con dates and a rough budget and see how the early bird stuff and price drops on tickets play out.

Average cases in my circle show some plan months out and others just wing it and still have fun.

If you are worried about crowds you can look for quieter days and a cheaper ticket block and decide on the fly.
