What should I expect from a local photography contest with community voting?

So I was thinking about entering a local photography contest for the first time. I keep looking at my best shots and wondering if they’re actually any good, or if I’m just too close to them to tell. The whole community voting part makes me a bit nervous, honestly.

That nervous feeling is real I get it when I think about a photography contest and the crowd voting

An outside eye would help you judge composition and light more clearly which a photography contest can benefit from

You might be fixated on one winning shot when a contest can reward a consistent voice across several frames

The voting crowds can be swayed by mood or trend which makes me skeptical about the fairness of the winners

Maybe the aim is not to prove you are the best but to practice the process of sharing your work and getting feedback for growth

I tried a quick critique with a friend and I learned where the light holds and where the pace slips in a sequence of shots

What if the real test is not the vote but how you respond to critique and grow beyond a single night?
