What should I eat to avoid energy crashes on a whole foods diet?
#1
I’ve been trying to eat more whole foods and cut out processed stuff, but I keep hitting this wall where my energy just crashes mid-afternoon. I’ll have a decent lunch, like a salad with chicken or some lentils, but by 3 PM I’m completely drained and end up reaching for a snack that doesn’t really help. Has anyone else dealt with this while trying to follow a whole food diet? I’m wondering if I’m missing something obvious.

I hear you. I switched to whole foods and the 3 pm dip still visits me sometimes. Some days I reach for a snack that feels comforting but not ideal. It helps to name the slump and ride it out rather than fight it.

Three pm energy drops often come from the balance of protein fat and fiber and the timing of carbs during the day. When you focus on whole foods the midday crash can feel different. Then you might notice patterns and test small tweaks.

I used to think whole foods meant eating only salads and bland meals. Turns out variety and some fats help me actually finish the day without fatigue.

I am skeptical that the problem is only about the label whole foods. There are days when you sleep badly or feel stressed and that drains energy more than any plate ever could.

What if the issue is not what you eat but when you eat in relation to your energy clock. The framing of the whole foods idea might hide a rhythm question rather than a meal plan.

A simple trick I tried is a small glass of water and a handful of nuts before two thirty. It smooths the slide for some people and it costs nothing much. If you focus on whole foods this approach might help you notice patterns.
