What PS5 games balance a strong story with minimal icons?

Okay, so I finally got my hands on a PS5 after all this time. I’ve been playing the big exclusives, but honestly, I’m starting to feel a bit lost in these massive open worlds. Does anyone else get that weird fatigue from having too much to do? I just want a great story without a map covered in icons for a change.

Totally get it. Open worlds with a zillion icons can sap the joy out of a story, and I miss a focused arc that pulls me through.

The fatigue might be about pacing and habituation; map icons turn exploration into chores. If you want a story without the clutter, curate experiences with tight storytelling and let the world breathe.

I was chasing every icon too, thinking more to do meant more story. Sometimes the vibe is the opposite—a quiet scene can carry the emotion better than a map full of tasks.

I doubt the fatigue is universal; maybe it's the right balance for some players. But if you want a story with less overhead, seek games that foreground narrative, not chores.

Maybe what you want isn't fewer worlds but a different storytelling tempo. Try linear or branching tales on PS5; the core story can land without a sea of icons.

Consider interactive fiction as a label not a rule book. The idea hints that choices steer a story, and you can chase that with tight pacing and character voices rather than a big map.
