What movies that change perspectives have actually altered your worldview?

I'm fascinated by movies that change perspectives in a fundamental way. Not just films that make you think "huh, that's interesting" but ones that actually shift how you see the world or certain groups of people.

For me, "The Wire" (I know it's a series, but bear with me) completely changed how I understand urban poverty and systemic issues. It didn't just show problems - it made you feel the complexity and the human cost in a way statistics never could.

What movies that change perspectives have actually altered your worldview? I'm talking about films that made you see an issue, a group of people, or a social problem in a completely new light.

Moonlight" completely changed how I think about masculinity and vulnerability. The way it portrays a Black man's journey through different stages of life, dealing with sexuality, identity, and community... it challenged so many stereotypes I didn't even realize I had.

"Fruitvale Station" also changed my perspective on police violence. Seeing the last day of Oscar Grant's life portrayed with such humanity made abstract statistics feel painfully personal. Those are movies that change perspectives by making you feel the human story behind the headlines.

The Act of Killing" is probably the most disturbing movie I've ever seen, and it completely changed how I understand historical memory and perpetrator psychology. The fact that it shows former death squad leaders reenacting their killings as movie scenes... it's a movie that changes perspectives on violence, memory, and impunity.

"Hotel Rwanda" changed how I think about international intervention and genocide. The helplessness of the UN peacekeepers, the bureaucracy of inaction... it made me understand why these tragedies happen despite the world "knowing" about them.

The Normal Heart" changed how I think about the AIDS crisis and LGBTQ history. I knew the basic facts, but seeing the personal stories, the activism, the government indifference... it made me understand why that generation of activists was so angry and why Pride isn't just a party.

"Dear White People" also shifted my perspective on microaggressions and campus race relations. As a white person, it helped me see things I was blind to. Those are movies that change perspectives by showing you experiences outside your own.

Inside Out" actually changed how I think about emotions and mental health. The way it personifies different emotions and shows how they all work together... it helped me understand my own emotional responses better and be more patient with others.

"WALL-E" changed my perspective on consumerism and environmentalism. The first half with no dialogue, just showing Earth as a trash heap with one little robot cleaning up... it made environmental issues feel urgent in a way lectures never did. Sometimes movies that change perspectives do it through animation meant for kids but with messages for adults.
