What minimal routine works for sensitive, redness-prone skin in your thirties?
#1
I'm in my late thirties and my combination skin has become increasingly sensitive and prone to redness, especially around my nose and cheeks. I feel like my current skincare routine isn't addressing these new concerns and might even be making things worse with too many active ingredients. For others who have navigated this shift, what does a simplified, effective routine look like? I'm trying to figure out the bare essentials—cleanser, moisturizer, sunscreen—and whether I should completely cut out exfoliants or just use them less frequently. How did you identify your specific triggers, and are there any ingredient categories you now universally avoid?

Minimalist core routine is best for sensitive skin. Start with a fragrance-free, non-foaming cleanser; a moisturizer with ceramides and hyaluronic acid; and a mineral sunscreen (zinc oxide). Patch-test any new product for 7–10 days before adding it to your daily routine. For exfoliation, consider either skipping it for a few weeks or trying a very mild chemical option (lactic acid around 5% or a gentle PHA) no more than every 1–2 weeks, and stop if redness or stinging returns.
