What is your workflow to get log footage to a natural look in Resolve?
#1
I'm a freelance videographer working on a short documentary, and I'm struggling to achieve a consistent, cinematic look in my color grading. I shot the footage on a log profile with a Sony camera, but my attempts in DaVinci Resolve are either too flat or end up looking overly stylized and artificial. For other editors, what is your fundamental workflow for bringing log footage to a natural, polished starting point before creative grading? How do you approach balancing skin tones across different lighting conditions within the same scene, and what are your go-to tools for managing contrast and saturation without introducing noise? Are there any specific monitoring or scoping practices you rely on to make objective decisions, especially when working on a non-calibrated screen?
