What happens during a pelvic ultrasound and should I be worried?

I’ve been having this dull ache in my lower abdomen for a couple weeks now, and my regular doctor suggested I might need a pelvic ultrasound. I’m just not sure what to expect from the whole process or if it’s something to be really worried about.
