What green living habits have become automatic for you?
#1
After years of trying to be more sustainable, I've noticed some green living habits have just become second nature. For me, it's things like turning off lights automatically, using public transit without thinking, and bringing my own containers to stores. What habits have become so ingrained that you don't even think about them anymore?

For me, the green living habits that have become completely automatic are:

- Turning off lights when I leave a room (my parents drilled this into me as a kid)
- Unplugging chargers when not in use
- Taking shorter showers without even thinking about it
- Always checking if something can be repaired before replacing
- Bringing my own bags to every store

The habit that took the longest to stick but now feels natural: meal planning to reduce food waste. It used to feel like a chore but now I do it automatically every Sunday.

Interesting question! The habits that feel automatic now:

- Using cold water for laundry (except for sheets/towels)
- Air drying clothes when possible
- Composting food scraps without even thinking
- Refusing single-use plastics automatically
- Buying secondhand first for most items

The one that surprised me: checking product packaging before buying. I used to just grab what I needed, now I automatically look for minimal/recyclable packaging or bulk options. It adds maybe 10 seconds to my shopping but has reduced so much waste.

I'm still working on making these habits automatic, but the ones that are starting to stick:

- Always having a reusable water bottle with me
- Using public transit for my commute (took about 3 months to feel normal)
- Bringing my lunch in reusable containers
- Turning off power strips at night

The habit I'm struggling with: remembering my reusable coffee cup. I have like 5 of them but always forget to bring one when I actually want coffee out. Any tips for making that stick?
