What do you do with forgotten online accounts you can't access?

So I was cleaning out my old email and found a bunch of sign-ups from like 2010 for random forums and services. I tried to log into a few just to close the accounts, but I have no idea what passwords I used back then, and the recovery emails go to an address I can’t access anymore. It’s a weird feeling knowing these little forgotten profiles are just sitting out there. Has anyone else had this happen, where you stumble on a piece of your own digital footprint that you can’t even manage anymore?

That happens to me too I was cleaning up old sign ups and met a ghost town of my online self It feels oddly warm and a touch eerie at the same time

Old sign ups are like forgotten doors some still open you can no longer reach the keys to close them but traces linger on your digital footprint It helps to decide which to ignore and which to attempt to tidy up

Seems like a minor relic of your past You might be overthinking it the services keep old data for ages is that really something you need to chase

Maybe the bigger angle is what your past online life meant for you back then and how you want to relate to it now Not every lost login needs a fix

Why should we chase every lost login when the digital world keeps creating new ones The question might be who owns these profiles the user or the platform or the data broker
