What could cause DirectX 12 games to crash to desktop on a new PC?

I just built a new PC and every time I launch a game that uses DirectX 12, it crashes to desktop within a few minutes. I've tried the usual directx 12 crash fix steps like updating my GPU drivers and Windows, but nothing has worked. Could this be a hardware compatibility issue, or is there something else in Windows I should be checking?
