What compression tutorials actually explain when and why to use compression?
#1
Compression is one of those things that seems simple until you actually try to use it effectively. I've watched dozens of compression tutorials, but most of them just show you what the knobs do without explaining when you should actually reach for compression in a mix.

What compression tutorials have you found that actually explain the musical reasons for using compression? Not just "set the threshold here, ratio there" but tutorials that explain things like when to use compression for tone shaping vs. dynamic control, or how to choose between different compressor types for different sources.

I'm looking for compression tutorials that help you develop an ear for what compression is actually doing, not just following recipes.
