What causes a laptop fan to whirr when opening many tabs?
#1
Okay, this is probably a silly question, but I’ve been noticing my laptop fan has started making this weird, high-pitched whirring noise whenever I open more than a couple of browser tabs. It’s a few years old, but it only just started doing this in the last week or so. I’m not sure if it’s finally dust buildup or if something is actually straining the system out of the blue.

That high pitched fan noise when you open a few tabs is the kind of little tech moment that makes you pause and worry about the device.

If a couple tabs trigger it try watching what else is running in the background and see if a program spikes cpu.

Maybe dust has built up and the fan blades are rubbing or fighting for air.

It could be a driver or firmware tweak that changed how the cooling kicks in rather than a hardware fault.

Are you sure the noise comes from the fan and not from the speakers or a loose panel?

This might be less about a sudden failure and more about aging hardware hitting a limit when a browser pool grows.

In writing terms the fan becomes a sign its mood is tired and the room is warm.
