What can I do to avoid big EV charging bills?

So I finally got my EV home charger installed last week, but I’m already noticing my electricity bill seems to be creeping up more than I expected. I’m plugging in overnight like everyone says to do, but I guess I didn’t really think through how our household’s baseline usage would stack on top of that. Has anyone else had that moment of surprise when they saw the first few post-charger bills?
