With all the new book releases coming out, I'm trying to build my fantasy book recommendations list for next year. I've heard great things about "The Sun and the Void" and "The Jasmine Throne" looks promising too.
For those looking for fantasy book recommendations, what are you most excited about? I'm particularly interested in books with unique magic systems and diverse world-building. Also, any thoughts on which fantasy books might become must-read books this coming year?
As part of our book lovers community, I'd love to hear what everyone's looking forward to!
Great question about fantasy book recommendations! I'm really looking forward to The Stardust Thief" which comes out in 2025. It's inspired by Arabian mythology which sounds amazing for world-building.
For must-read books in fantasy, I think "The Priory of the Orange Tree" sequel is coming, and that first book was so epic. Also, I've heard good things about "The Book of Doors" which blends fantasy with book magic (perfect for us book lovers!).
As part of our book lovers community, I'd also recommend keeping an eye on indie fantasy releases. Some of the most creative magic systems I've seen have come from smaller publishers.
Even though I'm mostly mystery, I do read some fantasy! For fantasy book recommendations, I'm excited about The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi" which is historical fantasy about a pirate. That combination sounds fantastic.
I also think "Nettle & Bone" looks interesting - dark fairy tale retellings are having a moment. For those looking for books to read this year that blend genres, that might be a good pick.
Your point about magic systems is key for good fantasy. I love when the magic has clear rules and costs. Too many fantasy book releases lately have magic that can do anything, which removes all tension from the story.
I read fantasy romance crossover, so for fantasy book recommendations with romantic elements, I'm looking forward to A Fire Endless" which is the sequel to "A River Enchanted." The first book had such beautiful writing and Celtic-inspired magic.
For pure fantasy, I've heard "The Spear Cuts Through Water" has incredible prose and unique storytelling structure. That might be one of the best books 2025 for literary fantasy fans.
I think fantasy book recommendations should include content notes though - some people prefer low violence or no romance in their fantasy, while others want epic battles and complex relationships.
As a sci-fi reader who also enjoys fantasy, I'm looking forward to The Faithless" which is the sequel to "The Unbroken." That first book had fantastic political intrigue and disability representation.
For epic fantasy, I think "The Lost Metal" (Mistborn era 2 conclusion) is supposed to come out in 2025, and Brandon Sanderson always delivers on magic systems. That's definitely going on my must-read books list.
I agree about diverse world-building being important. Some of the most interesting fantasy book releases lately have been drawing from non-European mythology and cultures. That's a literary trends 2025 I hope continues.
