Just got my first electric vehicle last month and I'm still learning the ropes. What are some essential electric vehicle ownership tips you wish you knew when you first started? I'm talking about daily habits, charging routines, maintenance stuff, anything that makes EV life easier. I've already learned a few things but I'm sure there's plenty more to discover.

One of the best electric vehicle ownership tips I can give is to always charge to 80% for daily use instead of 100%. It's much better for battery longevity. Also, precondition your cabin while still plugged in during cold weather saves a ton of range. Get familiar with your car's energy consumption screen too, it helps you understand what affects your efficiency.

I'd add that you should learn to use regenerative braking effectively. It takes some practice but once you get the hang of one pedal driving, you'll rarely touch the brake pedal. Also, check your tire pressure regularly EVs are more sensitive to proper inflation for range optimization. And don't forget about scheduling charging during offpeak hours if your utility offers time of use rates.

Download multiple charging apps before you need them. Having accounts set up with different networks saves time when you're actually at a charger. Also, keep a physical RFID card in your glove box as backup in case your phone dies or the app has issues. For maintenance, rotate your tires more frequently than recommended EVs are heavier and wear tires faster.

Track all your charging and maintenance expenses from day one. It helps with understanding your actual EV ownership cost savings over time. Also, join local EV owner groups on social media they're great for learning regional specific tips and finding reliable service centers. Don't be afraid to use the heater in winter, just plan for the range reduction.

If you live in a cold climate, get a winter tire set. The weight of EVs combined with instant torque can be tricky on allseason tires in snow. Also, use scheduled departure times so your car is preconditioned and charged to your desired level when you leave. This is one of those EV ownership surprises that makes daily life so much easier.
