What are the real electric car maintenance costs compared to gas vehicles?

I keep hearing that EVs have lower maintenance costs, but I want to see real numbers and experiences. What are the actual electric car maintenance costs you've encountered over time? Include everything from tire rotations to brake service and any unexpected repairs. Trying to do a proper cost comparison before making a purchase decision.

My electric car maintenance costs have been about 60% lower than my previous gas SUV over three years. No oil changes, fewer brake jobs thanks to regenerative braking, and no transmission service. The main costs have been tire rotations every 5,000 miles (EVs are heavier so tires wear faster), cabin air filter changes, and windshield wiper fluid. I did have one software related issue covered under warranty.

Tires are the biggest maintenance expense. EVs have unique EV tire wear patterns due to instant torque and weight. I replace tires about every 25,000 miles instead of the 40,000 I got with my gas car. Brake service is minimal I'm at 50,000 miles and still on original pads. The 12V battery replacement caught me by surprise though that's a common failure point around 3-4 years.

Don't forget about the cabin air filter more frequent changes if you use climate control often. Also, alignment checks are important because EVs are heavier. My maintenance savings have been substantial, but I spend more on car washes because I enjoy keeping my EV looking nice. The quiet driving experience makes me more aware of little rattles and noises too.

Winter adds some costs. Winter tires are essential in cold climates, and switching them twice a year adds expense unless you have a second set of wheels. Also, using more climate control in winter increases electricity costs. But overall, my electric car maintenance costs are still lower than my previous gas vehicle, even with these additional winter expenses.
