What are the real bike commuting advantages beyond just saving money?

I've been bike commuting to work for about six months now and I'm really starting to notice some benefits. Obviously there are the financial bike commuting advantages - no gas, less wear on the car, etc.

But I'm curious about the other bike commuting advantages people have experienced. For me, the biggest surprise has been the mental health benefits. Starting the day with some exercise and fresh air really sets a different tone.

What bike commuting advantages have you all noticed? I'm talking about things like health benefits, time management (counterintuitively, sometimes it's actually faster than driving in traffic), environmental impact, or even social aspects.

Also, for those considering bike commuting, what bike commuting advantages would you highlight to convince them to give it a try?

I've been bike commuting for three years and the bike commuting advantages go way beyond financial. The biggest one for me is mental health. That morning ride clears my head in a way driving never did. I arrive at work actually awake and focused.

Another bike commuting advantage is the built-in exercise. I don't have to schedule gym time - my commute IS my workout. Lost 15 pounds in the first year without changing anything else.
