What are the best ways to simplify life when everything feels overwhelming?
#1
I've been feeling really overwhelmed lately with work, family commitments, and just the general busyness of modern life. I know I need to simplify life but I'm not sure where to start. Has anyone found practical strategies that actually work? I'm looking for things that go beyond just cleaning out a closet - I want to create systems that help me maintain simplicity long-term.

I totally get where you're coming from. When I started trying to simplify life, I made the mistake of trying to do everything at once. What worked for me was starting with one small area - for me it was my email inbox. I unsubscribed from all the newsletters I never read and created simple folders. That small win gave me momentum to tackle other areas. The key for me was focusing on systems rather than one-time cleanups.

For me, simplifying life meant getting really clear about my priorities. I sat down and wrote out what actually matters to me - not what I think should matter. Then I started saying no to things that didn't align with those priorities. It was uncomfortable at first, but it created so much mental space. Now I have a simple rule: if it doesn't support my top three priorities, I don't do it.

One thing that helped me simplify life was creating morning and evening routines. They don't have to be complicated - mine are just 5-10 minutes each. But having those anchors in my day creates a sense of order. Morning routine: make bed, drink water, plan three priorities for the day. Evening routine: tidy living room, prepare coffee for next morning, write down one thing I'm grateful for. Simple but transformative.

I coach people on this, and the most effective approach I've found is what I call the simplicity audit." Every month, review one area of your life (digital, physical, social, financial, etc.) and ask: Does this add value or complexity? Can it be simplified or eliminated? The key is regular maintenance, not perfection. Trying to simplify life all at once usually backfires because it's overwhelming.

As someone who tests productivity apps, I can tell you that digital simplification is huge. Most people have way too many apps that do similar things. Pick one tool for each function (one note app, one task manager, one calendar) and stick with them. The constant switching between tools creates decision fatigue. Simplifying life digitally has been one of my biggest productivity boosts.
