What are the best hidden gem TV shows that nobody seems to be talking about?

I feel like I've watched everything mainstream and I'm really craving some hidden gem TV shows that have flown under the radar. You know, those shows that have amazing writing and acting but for whatever reason never got the attention they deserved. I'm talking about series that maybe only lasted one or two seasons but were absolutely brilliant. Any recommendations for hidden gem TV shows across any streaming platform? I'm open to any genre really, just looking for quality content that I might have missed.

Oh man, I've got a few hidden gem TV shows that immediately come to mind. First, The OA on Netflix was absolutely brilliant and I'm still mad it got cancelled after two seasons. The storytelling was so unique and ambitious. Another one is Counterpart on Prime Video - it's a spy thriller with a sci-fi twist starring J.K. Simmons playing two versions of himself. Incredible acting and writing, but it only got two seasons. Also check out Patriot on Amazon Prime - it's a dark comedy about a depressed intelligence officer that's both hilarious and heartbreaking.

I second The OA, that show was mind-blowing. Another hidden gem TV show that doesn't get enough love is Dark on Netflix. I know it has a cult following but it's still underrated compared to how complex and brilliant it is. The German time travel show that actually makes sense by the end. Also The Leftovers on HBO Max - it started getting more attention later but when it was airing it was definitely a hidden gem. Some of the best television I've ever seen, especially seasons 2 and 3.

If you're looking for hidden gem TV shows, you have to check out The Americans. It was critically acclaimed but never got the mainstream audience it deserved. One of the best spy dramas ever made with incredible character development over six seasons. Also Halt and Catch Fire - a drama about the personal computer revolution in the 80s that's actually about relationships and ambition. And Rectify - a slow burn drama about a man released from death row that's just beautiful and heartbreaking.

Adding to the list of hidden gem TV shows: The Knick on HBO Max. Medical drama set in 1900 New York with Clive Owen, directed by Steven Soderbergh. Incredible cinematography and score, and it only lasted two seasons but tells a complete story. Also Terriers on Hulu - a detective show that's actually about friendship and regret. Only one season but it's perfect. And Utopia (the UK version) if you can find it - a conspiracy thriller with amazing visuals and tension.

I'd add Fleabag to the list of hidden gem TV shows. I know it won awards but it's still not as widely watched as it should be. Two perfect seasons of television. Also Russian Doll on Netflix - the first season is a masterpiece of time loop storytelling with depth and humor. And The Good Place - yes it was popular but it's still underrated for how smart and philosophical it is while being hilarious.

Don't forget Better Things on Hulu/FX. Pamela Adlon's semi-autobiographical show about being a single mom and actress. It's so real and funny and heartbreaking. Also Reservation Dogs on Hulu - a comedy-drama about Indigenous teens in Oklahoma that's one of the best shows currently airing. And Somebody Somewhere on HBO Max - a quiet, beautiful show about grief and finding community in small town Kansas.
