What’s the best move: lease a commercial vehicle or keep my diesel van?
#1
I’ve been running my old diesel box van for years, but lately I’ve been wondering if I should finally think about a **commercial vehicle lease** instead. The repair bills are starting to add up, and I’m not sure if sinking more money into this rig makes sense for the next few years of my business. I just don’t know if the commitment and the monthly payment would feel better or worse than the constant surprise of fixing an aging truck.

If you run the numbers a commercial vehicle lease could turn the big unpredictable repair budget into a steady monthly expense. Maintenance is often bundled, mileage is capped, and you get newer tech without a gut punch each year. Do you have a realistic mile forecast to test against the lease terms?

I get the appeal, but leasing can feel like paying rent on an asset you don’t own. End of term fees, mileage penalties, and service packages you may not need can add up. Have you actually compared the total cost of ownership against a well chosen commercial vehicle lease?

The constant repair bills have a way of shaping your days. A lease would bring predictability but it also means you are signing up for someone else's schedule. I would map out a simple three year forecast including cash flow downtime and how often you actually need a newer van. Would you feel more free with predictable payments or more boxed in by limits?

If you frame the choice as cash flow tooling instead of asset ownership a commercial vehicle lease can be a way to scale with less risk. But you might also frame a hybrid approach keep the old van as a backup and lease a newer one for peak times. Is a hybrid approach workable for your workload?

Leases can feel like a reset button but don’t forget the fine print mileage limits wear fees and end of lease charges. Have you checked those terms against your actual mileage?

I notice how the word lease frames time differently with a commercial vehicle lease. Ownership fades, maintenance becomes service, and the decision rests on whether you want ongoing payments or a bigger payoff in a shorter span.

Maybe the answer is not one or the other but which keeps your business resilient a reliable old van with a trusted maintenance partner or a light upgrade and a service plan. A commercial vehicle lease could be part of that but only if the fit is right.
