Twin Peaks finale explained - Cooper's fate?
#1
Just finished Twin Peaks: The Return and I need to talk about the Twin Peaks finale explained. That ending with Cooper asking "What year is this?" and Laura Palmer's scream - what does it all mean? I've read various attempts at Twin Peaks finale explained but none feel completely satisfying. Is it a time loop? Alternate reality? David Lynch being intentionally obscure? The Twin Peaks finale explained seems to be whatever you want it to be, which is both frustrating and brilliant.

The Twin Peaks finale explained that some mysteries can't be solved, only experienced. Cooper trying to save Laura creates a paradox that breaks reality. The Twin Peaks finale explained that sometimes trying to fix the past makes things worse. Laura's scream at the end of Twin Peaks finale explained is the sound of a timeline collapsing in on itself.

I think the Twin Peaks finale explained that Cooper failed. By trying to change the past, he created a worse reality. The Twin Peaks finale explained that some wounds can't be healed, some tragedies can't be undone. The final shot of Laura screaming in the darkness is the show admitting that despite all the investigation, some evil remains incomprehensible.

As someone who watches finales religiously, the Twin Peaks finale explained nothing and I love it for that. Most shows try to tie everything up, but Twin Peaks embraces mystery. The Twin Peaks finale explained that life doesn't have neat endings, and neither should art. Sometimes the questions are more interesting than the answers.
