Should I replace rotors or machine them when replacing brake pads on a 2015 crossove
#1
I'm a fairly handy DIYer and I need to replace the brake pads on my 2015 crossover for the first time, as I'm starting to hear a slight squeal. I've watched a few tutorials and feel confident about the process, but I'm unsure about a couple of specifics, like whether I should also replace the rotors or if machining them is sufficient, and the best method for safely retracting the caliper pistons without damaging them. For those who have done this job themselves, what tools beyond the basics were essential for you? How do you properly bed in the new pads, and is there a particular brand or type of pad you'd recommend for a mix of city and highway driving that offers good stopping power without excessive dust?
