Seeking simple meal plans and tools to steady post-meal glucose.
#1
I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes six months ago, and while my initial blood sugar levels have improved with medication, I'm struggling to stabilize my daily readings, especially after meals. I'm trying to follow a balanced diet, but I find carbohydrate counting overwhelming and I'm never sure if my portions are correct. The constant monitoring and fear of long-term complications is mentally exhausting. For those who have been managing diabetes for a while, what practical systems did you develop for meal planning and tracking that don't feel all-consuming? How did you learn to interpret how different foods affect you personally, beyond the general guidelines, and are there specific tools or apps that helped you see patterns and feel more in control?

You're not alone. Start with the plate method: half non-starchy veggies, a quarter protein, a quarter carbs, plus healthy fats. Build a simple 3-day rotating plan and batch-cook so you’re not deciding every day. Track only a few things at first (meal, rough carb portion, and a quick mood/energy note) and expand once you’re comfortable.

I personally set a daily carb budget (agreed with my clinician) and stuck to 3 meals plus 1–2 snacks. I pre-portion meals for the week and log after meals—only the meals that mattered. Then, each week I review which meals moved my numbers and tweak portions for the next week.

Apps can be a big time-saver. Cronometer gives good macro detail; MySugr or DiaLife tailor to diabetes management; Carb Manager is great for easy carb counts. If you have a glucose meter or CGM, link it to the app to visualize post‑meal spikes and trends over days or weeks.
