Real-world performance: Samsung 990 Pro vs SN850X for gaming and video editing
#1
I'm building a new high-end gaming and content creation PC and have narrowed my storage choice down to two 2TB NVMe SSDs, a Samsung 990 Pro and a WD Black SN850X. I've seen the manufacturer specs and some professional NVMe SSD benchmarks, but I'm curious about real-world performance differences users have noticed, especially in game load times and moving large video project files. Is the marginal speed difference in synthetic tests actually perceptible during daily use, or are there other factors like sustained write performance or heat management I should prioritize?

For gaming load times, you’ll probably notice almost nothing; both drives are among the fastest PCIe 4.0 options. Where you’ll feel a difference is in sustained workloads and heat under heavy file transfers.
