I’ve been trying to get my home network setup to handle consistent 4K streaming across multiple devices, and I keep hitting a wall with my current router’s range and stability. My house is a two-story, roughly 2,500 square feet, with the office and main media center on opposite ends. The main issue is that while my ISP provides decent speed at the modem, the Wi-Fi signal degrades significantly by the time it reaches the living room, causing buffering during peak family streaming hours. I’ve tried a basic range extender, but it just created a separate, slower network with its own connectivity problems. I’m now considering a full mesh Wi-Fi system as a potential solution, but I’m hesitant because of the cost and the complexity of installation. I need something that can handle at least three concurrent 4K streams, some gaming traffic, and smart home devices without requiring a constant reboot. Has anyone successfully deployed a mesh Wi-Fi system in a similar layout and found it truly eliminates dead zones without sacrificing speed? I’m particularly curious about real-world performance versus the advertised specs and whether the investment is worth it over a more powerful single router.

Running a mesh with wired backhaul changed everything in my two-story 2,500 sq ft place. Three nodes over Ethernet finally deliver steady 4K streams and gaming without reboots; wireless backhaul alone can still wobble. If you can pull cables or choose a system with a dedicated backhaul, it’s worth it; otherwise, a strong router plus a couple satellites can be a compromise.
