I’ve been trying to get my home network setup to handle consistent 4K streaming across three TVs and a handful of mobile devices, but I keep hitting a wall with my current single router. The main issue is buffering in the living room, which is the farthest point from my office where the modem is. I ran a speed test there and I’m only getting about 30 Mbps on a gigabit connection, which just isn’t cutting it for the high bitrate streams we watch. I’ve tried powerline adapters with mixed results—they’re stable but the speed is still capped. I’m now seriously considering a full **mesh wifi** system to eliminate these dead zones, but my house is older with plaster walls, which I know can be a challenge for any wireless signal. My budget is around $300, and I need something that’s relatively easy to manage since I’m not a networking expert. I’m torn between investing in a tri-band system now or starting with a dual-band and adding nodes later, but I’m worried about future-proofing if we add more smart home devices. Has anyone deployed a **mesh wifi** network in a similar older home and found a particular brand or model that punches through plaster reliably without needing a node in every single room?

Had a similar plaster-wall home and fixed it with a 3-pack Asus ZenWiFi AX XT8; one node in the hall cleaned up the living-room dead spots, and the app is surprisingly friendly. If you’re keeping to about $300, Deco X60 or Eero 6 Pro are common sale picks—prefer models with wired-backhaul support in case you can run Ethernet to a couple spots.
