I’ve been trying to get my home network setup to handle a bunch of new smart home gadgets, and I’m hitting a wall with my current router’s range. My house is a two-story, older construction with plaster walls, and the signal just dies in the back bedrooms and the basement where I have my office. I’ve tried moving the router to a more central location upstairs, but it only helped a little. I’m considering a mesh system, but I’m worried about the cost and complexity of setting it up, especially since I have a mix of wired and wireless devices and I don’t want to lose speed for my work video calls. My main goal is a reliable connection everywhere without running a ton of new Ethernet cables through the walls. Has anyone else dealt with a similar situation and found a good solution for whole-home coverage that doesn’t break the bank or require a networking degree to configure?

I had a two-story plaster house with basement dead zones too. My fix was a midrange Wi‑Fi 6 mesh with a satellite toward the far bedrooms and a powerline adapter feeding a small AP in the basement. No new cables, solid video calls, and setup was plug‑and‑play through the app. Look for easy backhaul options.
