Organizing successful local market events

Our neighborhood wants to start hosting local market events to support small businesses and artisans in our community. What should we consider when organizing these types of events? I'm thinking about vendor selection, location, timing, and promotion. Also, how do we balance making it accessible for vendors (affordable booth fees) while covering our costs? Any advice on creating the right atmosphere that encourages both shopping and community interaction? I want these to be more than just shopping events - I want them to be community gathering spaces.
