My phone screen has become completely unresponsive, what should I try first?

Hey everyone, I'm dealing with some serious phone screen unresponsive issues on my Samsung Galaxy S21. The screen just stopped working yesterday - no touch response at all. I can see the display fine, but I can't swipe, tap, or do anything. I've tried restarting it by holding the power button, but that didn't help. Has anyone experienced this before? What are the first things I should try before taking it to a repair shop? I'm worried it might be a hardware issue but hoping there's a software fix.

I've seen this exact phone screen unresponsive issue before with several Samsung models. Before you panic, try connecting a USB mouse or keyboard to your phone using a USB-C adapter. If the mouse works, you can navigate to settings and try a factory reset. Sometimes it's just a software glitch that a reset can fix. If the mouse doesn't work either, then it's almost certainly a hardware problem with the digitizer.

Had similar phone screen unresponsive issues with my old phone after it got slightly wet. The screen would work intermittently for a few days then completely die. If you've had any moisture exposure recently, that could be the culprit. Even small amounts of humidity can mess with the touch sensors. Try putting it in a bag of rice or silica gel packets for 24-48 hours, see if that helps at all.

If you're comfortable opening the phone, sometimes the display cable just comes loose. I fixed my friend's phone with the same phone screen unresponsive issues by reseating the display connector. But honestly, if you're not experienced with phone repairs, it's easy to make things worse. The USB mouse trick mentioned above is a great first step to determine if it's software or hardware.

My sister had phone screen unresponsive issues after dropping her phone. The screen looked fine but touch stopped working. Turned out the digitizer was cracked internally. If you've dropped it recently, even if there's no visible damage, that could be the problem. Repair shops can usually replace just the digitizer without replacing the whole display, which is cheaper.

Try booting into safe mode first. On Samsung phones, you can usually do this by holding power and volume down during boot. If the screen works in safe mode, it's probably a third-party app causing the phone screen unresponsive issues. I've seen some poorly coded apps completely kill touch functionality until you uninstall them.
