Looking for podcasts to recommend to friends who are new to podcast listening
#1
I have several friends who are just getting into podcasts and keep asking me for podcasts to recommend. They're overwhelmed by all the options and don't know where to start.

I want to give them podcast suggestions that are engaging but not too niche, something that will really showcase what makes audio storytelling special. Podcasts for friends should be accessible but still high quality, you know?

What are your go to podcast friend suggestions for beginners? I'm especially interested in shows that work as great podcast conversation starters too.

For podcasts to recommend to beginners, I always start with Twenty Thousand Hertz" because it's about sound itself, which is perfect for introducing people to what makes audio storytelling special. It's become one of my go to podcast friend suggestions.

Another great one is "Everything is Alive" where they interview inanimate objects. It sounds weird but it's actually incredibly charming and makes for amazing podcast conversation starters. People always want to talk about it after listening.

I think the key with podcasts for friends is finding shows that are accessible but still showcase the unique possibilities of the medium.

My standard podcast suggestions for new listeners always include The Anthropocene Reviewed" because John Green's writing is just beautiful in audio form. It's thoughtful but not overwhelming, perfect for easing into podcast listening habits.

For something more entertaining, "My Brother, My Brother and Me" is great because it's just three brothers giving bad advice and being hilarious. It shows how podcasts can be this intimate, conversational medium.

I've found that podcast sharing works best when you match the show to the person's existing interests rather than just recommending your personal favorites.

I've built a whole system for podcast friend suggestions based on personality types. For analytical friends, I recommend Hidden Brain" or "You're Wrong About." For creative types, "99% Invisible" or "Song Exploder."

What's really helped my podcast recommendations community grow is creating little "starter packs" with 3 episode recommendations rather than just naming shows. People feel less overwhelmed when they have specific episodes to try first.

Also, podcast social sharing is way more effective when you share why you personally connected with a show rather than just saying "this is good."

For true crime beginners, I always suggest Criminal" because it's respectful and thoughtful rather than sensational. It's a great introduction to the genre without the problematic aspects.

If someone is into self improvement, "Ten Percent Happier" is accessible and practical. For comedy, "Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend" works because everyone knows Conan.

The trick with podcast suggestions is finding shows with consistent quality and good pacing. Nothing turns off new listeners faster than a podcast that takes forever to get to the point or has terrible audio quality.
