Looking for fitness groups in community
#1
I'm trying to get more active and I think joining a group would help with motivation. Does anyone know of any good fitness groups in community? I'm open to anything from running clubs to yoga groups to hiking meetups. I'd prefer something that's welcoming to beginners and meets regularly. Are there any fitness groups that have particularly good communities around them?

There's a running club that meets at the track on Tuesday evenings. All levels are welcome and they usually split into groups based on pace. I was nervous to go at first but everyone was really friendly. Also the community center has yoga classes that are affordable and beginner friendly. For hiking meetups, check the outdoor store downtown. They organize group hikes on weekends. Fitness groups in community are great because they provide accountability and social connection.

The park district has free fitness classes in the park during the summer. Things like Zumba, boot camp, and tai chi. They're designed for all fitness levels and the instructors are good about offering modifications. I've also seen flyers for a moms walking group that meets at the mall in the mornings before stores open. Fitness groups in community don't have to be intense workouts. Sometimes just having people to walk with makes it more enjoyable.

The senior center has water aerobics classes that are wonderful for people with joint issues. The pool is warm and the instructor is very patient. Also there's a gentle yoga class specifically for older adults. What I appreciate about these fitness groups in community is that they're not competitive. Everyone is just there to move their bodies and feel better. The social aspect is just as important as the exercise part.
