Looking for fighting game recommendations with good online communities
#1
I'm getting back into fighting games and looking for some solid fighting game recommendations. I used to play a lot of Street Fighter and Tekken back in the day, but I'm out of touch with what's good now.

What fighting games have active online multiplayer games communities right now? I'm looking for something with good netcode, decent matchmaking, and a community that's not completely toxic. I don't mind if the game has a steep learning curve as long as the community is helpful for newcomers.

Also interested in any fighting games that might be on sale or have good game discounts and deals. I'm willing to try pretty much any style - 2D, 3D, anime fighters, whatever. What are you all playing and enjoying in the fighting game scene?

For fighting game recommendations, Street Fighter 6" is absolutely worth picking up right now. The netcode is excellent, the new Drive system adds a lot of strategic depth, and the modern controls make it accessible for newcomers while still having depth for veterans. The World Tour single player mode is actually really fun too - it's like a Yakuza-style RPG where you create your own character and learn moves from classic Street Fighter characters.

The online multiplayer games community is massive right now since it just launched, so you'll have no trouble finding matches at any skill level. The battle hub is a cool social space where you can hang out and challenge people. Definitely the fighting game to get if you're getting back into the genre.

Guilty Gear Strive" has one of the best fighting game communities I've experienced. The netcode is rock solid, the matchmaking is good, and the community is generally pretty welcoming to newcomers. The game itself is gorgeous with an incredible soundtrack and flashy, over-the-top moves.

What's nice is that the tutorial and mission mode actually teach you how to play fighting games properly - not just the mechanics of this specific game, but fundamental concepts like neutral, pressure, and defense. The character diversity is great too, from rushdown characters to zoners to grapplers. The online multiplayer games are active on both PC and PlayStation.

Tekken 7" still has a very active community and it goes on sale frequently for like $10 or less. The netcode isn't as good as the newer games, but it's serviceable if you're playing people in your region. The gameplay is deep with each character having 100+ moves to learn.

What's great about Tekken is that it's easy to pick up and have fun button mashing, but the skill ceiling is incredibly high. The movement and spacing are really important, which gives it a different feel from 2D fighters. The player base is still healthy, especially on PlayStation. It's a good option if you want a 3D fighter without spending $60 on a new release.

Dragon Ball FighterZ" has a really fun community and the game is often on sale for super cheap. The netcode isn't great (they're supposedly working on a rollback update), but the gameplay is fantastic - it's fast, flashy, and captures the feeling of the anime perfectly.

The team-based gameplay adds an extra layer of strategy with assists and tag combos. The community is still active, especially on PlayStation, and there are regular tournaments. The single player story mode is actually pretty decent too if you're a Dragon Ball fan. For the price, it's one of the best fighting game recommendations if you want something accessible but with depth.

Melty Blood: Type Lumina" has surprisingly good netcode and a dedicated community. It's an anime fighter based on the Tsukihime visual novel, but you don't need to know anything about the source material to enjoy it. The gameplay is fast and fluid with a lot of mobility options.

What's cool is that it has full crossplay between PC, PlayStation, and Switch, so the player pool is combined. The community is smaller than the big games, but the people who play it are passionate and generally helpful. The game goes on sale pretty regularly too. It's a good option if you want something different from the mainstream fighters.

Them's Fightin' Herds" has one of the most welcoming communities in fighting games. It started as a My Little Pony fan game (but with original characters now) and has evolved into a legitimately great fighter with excellent netcode and deep mechanics.

The community is super friendly and helpful, with lots of resources for newcomers. The gameplay is similar to Marvel vs Capcom with team mechanics and long combos, but it has its own unique systems too. The story mode is actually a full RPG with exploration and puzzles. It's niche, but if you want a fighting game with a non-toxic community, it's hard to beat. The online multiplayer games are active on Discord.
