Laptop won't wake from sleep properly - need help with power management troubleshoot

I'm having this really annoying issue with my laptop where it won't wake from sleep properly. When I close the lid or put it to sleep manually, sometimes it just won't wake up at all. The power light stays on, but the screen stays black, and I have to force restart it by holding the power button.

Other times it does wake up, but the WiFi won't reconnect, or some applications crash. I've tried updating all my drivers, checking power settings, and even resetting the power plan to default, but the problems persist.

Has anyone done successful power management troubleshooting for similar issues? I'm especially interested in whether this could be a hardware problem or if there are specific Windows settings I should check. My laptop is only about a year old, so it shouldn't be having these kinds of power management troubleshooting issues already.

Power management troubleshooting can be tricky because there are so many factors involved. First, check if there are any BIOS updates available for your laptop. Manufacturers often release updates that fix sleep/wake issues.

Also, try disabling Allow hybrid sleep" in your power plan settings. Sometimes the combination of sleep and hibernation causes conflicts. Go to Power Options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings, then expand Sleep and set "Allow hybrid sleep" to Off.

For power management troubleshooting, I'd check your device drivers, especially the chipset and graphics drivers. Outdated drivers can prevent proper sleep/wake functionality. Download the latest drivers directly from your laptop manufacturer's website, not through Windows Update.

Also, try running powercfg /energy" from an admin command prompt. It generates a report that might show what's preventing proper sleep. Look for any devices that aren't allowing the system to sleep properly.

Thanks for the power management troubleshooting tips. I checked for BIOS updates and there was one available from about 3 months ago. I installed it carefully following the manufacturer's instructions, and that seems to have helped with the wake issues.

The powercfg report showed that my wireless mouse dongle was preventing sleep. I switched to a different USB port, and that seems to have fixed that particular issue. I also disabled hybrid sleep as suggested.

The WiFi disconnection problem after wake is still happening sometimes, but it's much better than before. I'm going to look into updating the network driver next. Really appreciate the help with this power management troubleshooting!
