Is upgrading your phone still worth it these days?

I'm still using a phone from 2022 and it works fine, but I'm seeing all these new features on the latest models. My question is simple: is a phone upgrade worth it anymore?
The improvements seem more incremental each year. Better cameras, slightly faster processors, maybe some AI features. But are these upgrades actually noticeable in daily use? Or are we just buying new phones because of marketing?
I'm specifically wondering if the jump from a 2-3 year old phone to a current model provides enough benefits to justify the cost. What has your experience been?
As an iPhone user, I've found that a phone upgrade worth it happens every 3-4 years, not annually. The jump from a 2022 phone to a 2025 model would give you better battery life, improved cameras, and longer software support.
But whether a phone upgrade worth it depends on your specific phone. If you have a flagship from 2022, it might still be fine. If it's a mid range model, the improvements might be more noticeable. The camera improvements in particular have been significant recently.
On the Android side, I'd say a phone upgrade worth it if your current phone is struggling with performance or battery life. The efficiency improvements in newer chipsets are real, and battery technology has gotten better.
Also, if you care about camera quality, the computational photography improvements make a phone upgrade worth it. Night mode, portrait mode, and video stabilization have all gotten dramatically better even in the last 2-3 years.
But if your phone works fine and you're happy with the camera, maybe wait another year.
Battery degradation is a big factor in whether a phone upgrade worth it. Most phone batteries lose significant capacity after 2-3 years of daily use. If you're finding yourself charging multiple times a day, that alone might justify an upgrade.
Newer phones also have faster charging, which is convenient if you're often in a hurry. But if you're happy with your phone's performance and battery life, there's no urgent need to upgrade just because new models exist.
