Is it worth rereading a prize-winning novel I found emotionally detached?
#1
I just finished a much-hyped literary fiction novel that won a major award last year, and while I admired the beautiful prose and intricate structure, I found myself emotionally detached from the characters and ultimately unsatisfied by the ambiguous ending. I've read several glowing book reviews that praised its brilliance, which makes me wonder if I missed something profound or if it's simply a matter of personal taste not aligning with critical consensus. For other readers who enjoy character-driven stories, did this novel resonate with you, or did you have a similar experience of appreciating the craft without feeling connected? I'm trying to decide if it's worth a re-read to catch subtleties I may have overlooked, or if I should just accept that it wasn't for me and move on.
