How viable are air coolers for Best PC builds for gaming 2025?
#1
I'm planning one of the best PC builds for gaming in 2025, but I'm stuck on a thermal question. With the new high-wattage CPUs and GPUs, is it still viable to use a high-quality air cooler in a well-ventilated case, or have we officially reached the point where a 360mm AIO liquid cooler is a mandatory purchase for any high-end gaming rig that isn't going to thermal throttle?

Air coolers can still keep a high end gaming rig cool if you have solid case airflow and a quality cooler. You do not need a 360mm AIO for every high wattage setup in a well vented case

Hot summers or cool basements aside a 360 mm AIO can help avoid heat soak during long sessions. For many builds a premium air cooler plus good case fans is enough and quieter when tuned right. The real world data matters more than the spec sheet

Make a simple decision flow you can reuse. Start by noting CPU TDP and GPU load under your typical gaming. Map your case airflow and pick air cooler options and AIO candidates. Check noise targets and think about future upgrades

Search for reviews that show sustained gaming load results in setups like yours. The biggest differences show up in boost duration and stability under heat which can be more telling than a quick peak temp

Bottom line you can build a great gaming rig with strong air cooling if your case and fan curve are top notch. If you want specific model suggestions tell me your case size and budget and I will map out options that balance price and performance with future proofing including best gaming GPUs 2025 guidance and a gaming PC build guide reference
