How should I weigh my country's freedoms against its flaws?

I’ve been thinking about this ever since my neighbor, who’s from a country with a completely different political system, mentioned how much he values the stability it provides. It made me wonder if I’ve been taking the freedoms in my own country for granted, or if I’m just blind to its flaws. I’m not even sure how to weigh one against the other anymore.
