How have you tweaked smartphones to reduce daily screen time?

Smartphones are incredibly powerful, but that power can lead to decision fatigue. What's one specific, non-default setting or lesser-known feature you've changed on your phone that has genuinely reduced your daily screen time or mental clutter?

I enabled Focus mode during work hours with a minimal home screen and only essential apps visible I mute all non essential notifications and set a single daily window for checking messages It reduced my daily screen time and helped me stay on task

I switched my display to grayscale after eight pm so the phone feels less tempting in the evenings and I sleep better It sounds small but it reduces constant checking and stress

I disabled autoplay of videos and turned off most push notifications from social apps only allowing urgent alerts and messages This lowers the number of times I reach for the phone

I set a hard daily limit on social apps within the digital wellbeing tools and turned off lock screen previews so I only see a quick glance at a few things The rest waits until I open the app

For best smartphones 2025 this tweak really helps I keep two dedicated check times per day and use a small timer to remind me to take a break from the screen
