How early to line up for major panels on my first Comic-Con Saturday?
#1
This will be my first time attending Comic-Con, and I managed to snag a Saturday badge after years of trying. I'm incredibly excited but also completely overwhelmed by the schedule and sheer size of the event. My main interests are the big Hall H panels for upcoming sci-fi movies and the artist alley, but I know the logistics for both are notoriously difficult. For seasoned attendees, what is your number one piece of practical advice for a first-timer? How early do I really need to line up for a major panel, and what are some lesser-known areas or events that are worth seeking out to avoid the biggest crowds? I want to make the most of this single day without spending the whole time in a queue.

Congrats—Saturday at Comic-Con is a big day, but if you go in with a plan you can actually enjoy it. My top tip: pick 2–3 must‑see panels and build your day around them. For Hall H, line up early and have a solid backup plan for other events in smaller rooms. Pack a water bottle, snacks, sunscreen, and a portable charger, and wear comfy shoes; you’ll thank yourself by the end of the day.

Hall H strategy-wise: the line can be chaotic and unpredictable, so check the official schedule and line status in the app, and be prepared to regroup if you don’t make a specific panel. If you’re not sure you’ll get in, consider catching the live feed in a nearby large room and still enjoy the stage atmosphere and Q&A afterward.

Artist Alley: go early for best sketches or commissions, but also swing by later for less crowding and to catch artists who aren’t appearing first thing. Bring business cards or a digital portfolio; many creators love chats about their work. Also bring cash and card options, as some artists only take one or the other.

Logistics: download the official app, study the convention map, identify restrooms, food options, and exits near your target venues. The day is long—plan for big walks between venues, and schedule short rest breaks.

Social plan: go with a friend or two to split up and meet up; share your schedules and notes afterward; if your goal is photos or autograph lines, decide ahead of time and don’t crowd in the same queues. Also remember to be kind to staff and fellow attendees—queues can be stressful.

Bonus pro tip: bring a mini safety net—backup plan if line times shift or venues overcrowd; check for alternative sessions with similar content, so you can still catch the announcements on big screens even if you didn’t get into the main panel.
