How does a high refresh rate monitor affect single-player games?

So I finally upgraded to a high refresh rate monitor, and honestly, I'm a bit thrown. The motion is incredibly smooth in fast-paced shooters, but now my old favorite single-player RPGs almost feel… too fluid? Like the cinematic weight is gone. Has anyone else experienced this weird disconnect after getting used to a buttery-smooth display?

Yeah that upgrade hits different I went to a 144 Hz panel and the action feels silky but the slower moments in my RPGs now feel lighter and almost floaty it is a weird disconnect but I still kind of like it

It is not just smoothness the frame pacing shifts the eye expects a certain weight in cutscenes and dialog and a high refresh rate changes how motion blur reads which can drain the cinematic heft you remember

I wonder if you are chasing realism and maybe the game uses stylized animation the weight was never there to begin with you just noticed it now

I am skeptical the problem is the display maybe you are just missing the vibe of a fixed camera or you are comparing modern action with classic pacing and your brain is adjusting

Maybe the frame rate shift invites you to rethink what cinematic means in this RPG maybe you could lean into slower combat or different camera options to reclaim a sense of weight

From a writing craft angle the cadence of scenes matters more than polish you might try tweaking cut timing in the game to keep a moody rhythm

Cadence is a concept worth naming here the rhythm of movement and stillness changes with hardware and you end up tuning what feels cinematic
