How do you know when brake pads need replacing after track days?

So I’ve been running the same set of brake pads for a few track days now, and I’m starting to notice the bite feels a little different later in a session. I’m wondering if anyone else has felt that subtle change and how you decided it was time for a fresh set, or if it’s just something you get used to.

Yeah I have felt that after a few hot laps the bite drifts as the brake pads heat and then cool

From a mechanical view heat cycles can change pad texture and how the friction material wears some compounds glaze and the friction coefficient shifts during a session

I mis read this and pictured the bite getting better as you wear the brake pads which is not how it works

I am skeptical that a changing bite means new pads are needed yet I would check wear thickness and a pad life indicator if available

Maybe the bigger point is not whether bite changes but what the session asks your brakes to do the idea of a fixed bite is a myth in long track runs

I keep notes on pad temp and how the car feels and I set a rule like swap when the bite shifts noticeably after a couple of sessions

Have you measured actual pad thickness or checked a wear indicator to confirm you are near the end of life?
